Would you like an advice-based service?

If you use Discretionary Services you give full discretion for buying and selling investments to your portfolio manager. In other words, you give the manager the authority to transact for you without seeking approval for every trade.

Advisory services also tend to start off with an interview, without obligation or charge, to determine your needs. Depending on the interview, it can take one of two routes: you either seek advice only on specific stocks; or you seek advice on the best overall strategies (such as advice on individual stocks and capital gains tax)

Comprehensive financial planning takes care of your overall strategy, including advice on the placing of cash deposits, retirement planning, pensions, mortgages, life assurance, school fees, inheritance tax, National Savings, PEPs, TESSAs and ISAs and anything else which impacts on your finances.

Execution only services simply offer access to the stock market for investors who do not require advice. There is no element of advice or management in this service.

Are you a smaller investor (i.e. with less than £20,000 to invest)?

Smaller investors welcome. Size is relative, certainly among the portfolios managed by APCIMS members. Consider yourself a smaller investor if your portfolio is worth around £20,000 or less.

AIM means that the firm will deal in shares of companies quoted on the Alternative Investment Market, the UK market for young and growing companies.

Associate members

APCIMS associate members are those firms and organisations which, although they do not deal directly for the private investor, share the aims of the APCIMS community. Associate members include stock exchanges, clearing and settlement houses, information services and firms which provide professional services to our members (accountants, legal firms lawyers and software providers, for instance).
